Devilkin

Devilkin are despised. That is the first thing most devilkin learn as children. Given the atrocities of the infernal hoard, it's no surprise that the zealous people of the theocracy shun any reminder of it. Superstition would tell you that devilkin are mean-spirited beings, prone to deception and crime. That they are omens of sin and born guilty.   In reality, Devilkin are simple humans, mildly affected by the infernal realm's influence. Their bodies are twisted into demonic reflections, humans with horns, devilish skin, fiery eyes, and tails. They are mildly more prone to dishonesty, violence, and malice as comes with infernal influence. However, these aren't nearly strong enough traits to make a real difference in how they live their lives.   Devilkin are born from parents who either consorted with demons, were cursed by demons, or simply spent too much time nearby rifts to the infernal realm.   Most devilkin are truly changed by how the world treats them. The theocracy sees them as criminals and monsters, so many devilkin become them. The Theocracy is quick to slap down the ambitions of its devilkin citizens. Any who try to rise in the ranks will have to work twice as hard to earn the same recognition as the average human. There is a stigma over devilkin of high standing, as they are automatically assumed to be agents of the infernal hoard, or anarchists hellbent on tearing the established order to the ground.   "Devil" is a derogatory term used by most to describe devilkin. "Devilkin" in itself is an accusation of the faith, insisting that devilkin are true infernals, not human at all. The word "Tiefling" is more commonly used in the slums where most devilkin live.
A depiction of a devilkin painted by the great artist Barmolethew Trout. It is said that this piece was created long before Trout ever met his first devilkin, and he pictured it from the descriptions others gave him.
