Faefolk

Faefolk are human beings who have been influenced by the realm of dreams. Most commonly found close to the Feywood, faefolk need not be born as such, as one can be affected by the faerift simply by travelling near the forest.   Despite the horrors of the Feywood, the Realm of Dreams is commonly viewed as a strange but positive addition to the world. In small doses, the Dream Realm inspires creativity and happiness in those it influences, it amplifies the minds of those it touches allowing them to see wonders of their deepest imaginations, or the horrors which dwell deep within their souls, all within dreams. The influence of the fey realm cannot be escaped, but its influence for most ends when they wake up and has next to no physical effect. However, for those nearby a faerift, it is a different story entirely.   The human mind is painfully susceptible to the influence of other realms, and those caught close to the faerifts without protection are transformed permanently into faeries and other similarly twisted creatures. Those who are born near the feywood or as the offspring of faefolk are prone to far healthier effects. People living or travelling close to the feywood also develop fae-like features dependent on their exposure, and it's a common rumour amongst the ill-informed that one becomes a happier person if they travel down the Exalted Turnpike. Naturally, such a small dose wouldn't have much of an effect at all.   Fae influence manifests very subtly. Physically, faefolk exhibit supple forms, pointed ears, long colourful hair, and large irises. Mentally, faefolk are known for their creativity, freedom of spirit, sense of adventure, and temperamental attitude. Faefolk are most envied for their long lives, depending on exposure, one can live up to twice the age of a human. Additionally, most commonfolk will have heard of their outgoing and joyful personalities. Whilst it's common to have met at least one travelling faefolk, it's rare to have truly known one, as they have trouble staying still for long periods.
