The Wyrm

The Wyrm is the most powerful of the dragons. It is said he was the first dragon, and all others are his far descendants, as unlike regular dragons, he does not age. Once the tyrannical ruler of the age of dragons, the Wyrm has become content to sit in his mountain and watch the world through the eyes of his many followers.
The Wyrm is not an extraplanar god, he is a living being on the surface of the material realm. The celestial pantheon are former humans, but they draw strength from the celestial realm, and cannot be considered part of the material anymore. The Wyrm draws power from nowhere and is himself a tremendously powerful being.
Some idiots of the faith have suggested that the Wyrm cannot be considered a god. Calling it blasphemy. However, those zealots were swiftly reminded by their peers that the Wyrm is the most powerful being in this realm, and could easily destroy any civilization to rise. He is not to be provoked. Luckily, however, the Wyrm has shown no desire to retake control, and appears to be enjoying his time of rest for however long it lasts, close to the helltear, should it ever spiral out of control.
The Wyrm challenges all to delve into his mountain to drink from his vast well of knowledge or claim a fraction of his wealth. However, those who succeed are few, as his trials to prove oneself worthy of his boons are perilous and potentially deadly to the unprepared.
