The Monolith

The Monolith on Kua: Citadel of Zenithian Civilization

Introduction

The Monolith on Kua, a colossal and enigmatic structure, stands as an iconic symbol of Zenithian pride and civilization within the Coriolis setting. Despite its mysterious origins, it has become a central element in the narrative of the Zenithians' quest for a new home in the Third Horizon.

Symbol of Zenithian Civilization

No records exist regarding the builders or purpose of the Monolith, but prevailing theories suggest the involvement of the enigmatic Portal Builders. Regardless of its origin, the Monolith has emerged as an awe-inspiring symbol, representing the zenith of Zenithian culture and civilization.

Quassar Family and Colonization

Six decades ago, the Quassar family and their followers, seeking a new home after centuries of cryo dreams, chose the Monolith as their settlement site. The primordial stone, reaching for the sky, exuded an air of might and stability that appealed to the Zenithian colonists. The superstitious respect shown by the Firstcome tribes in the area only reinforced the Monolith's suitability as a settlement.

Cultural and Economic Significance

Since then, the Monolith has become a potent symbol of Zenithian civilization, Kua's economic expansion, and the new order introduced by the colonists. If Coriolis serves as the political focal point of the Horizon, the Monolith stands as the undisputed citadel of the Zenithian way of life.

House Guards

The Monolith is guarded by house guards representing the bigger families in the Cabinet of Thousands. These guards, often referred to as "peacock troops" in Conglomerate slang, showcase their allegiance to Zenithian culture through colorful uniforms and ostentatious ceremonies.

Notable Units

  • Quassar's Janissaries: Descended from the military traditions of Al-Ardha, the Janissaries guard the Palace of the Hegemony and consider themselves the crown jewels of Zenithian supremacy.

  • Din Hrama's 1st Sogoi Battalion: Known for their vivid feather uniforms and antique long rifles, the Sogoi Battalion demands both fear and respect.

  • Arianites' Seraphim Guard: Equipped with grav belts and sail wings, the Seraphim Guard makes a spectacular entrance with perfect formations.

Geography of the Monolith

The Monolith's colossal size, reaching over 4000 meters from base to top, makes it the largest known building in the Third Horizon. Divided into three parts:

Covenant City

Climbing out of the Conglomerate and surrounding the base of the artifact, Covenant City serves as a hub for visitors, hosting crucial deals, negotiations, and permit applications. Notable locations include the Covenant ring, the Hanging Bazaar, and the Wall of The Icons, a holy site covered in mysterious inscriptions.

The Forbidden Sector

Situated between the top of Covenant City and the lower levels of Sky City, the Forbidden Sector features smaller buildings, a prominent excavation site, and the fort of the Astûrban.

Sky City

Home to the Zenithian elite, Sky City boasts palaces, gilded colonnades, and exotic parks. It serves as the seat of Abarren Quassar and the Cabinet of Thousands.
