Gakke the Prophet - Competition

The younger brother of the Petty King of Naovojo, born under the gaze of Mahen and granted the gift of prophesy.   Gakke was the first born child of the previous rulers of Naovojo, Petty King Denaol and his husband Geyvos. They were always a quiet child - and often avoided by others their age. It was only when they, still a child, burst to tears at dinner and proclaimed that Geyvos would die while giving birth to the pair's next child that the rulers learned of the child's gift of prophesy. Gakke's delivery of ominous statements had caused other children to fear him, but his parents took his warning to heart. Thanks to Gakke's declaration, Geyvos survived - and their younger sibling Nao was safely born as well. Nao was named after Naosuli, as an offering of respect to the deity that would have been their patron had Geyvos perished as Gakke predicted. Instead, they were born under the gaze of Naosuli's sister, Vasculas, being born in a healing ward.   This early intervention taught the young prophet that their gift was not to be burdened with the inevitable, but blessed with the ability to prepare for the unpredictable. As such, he embraced his power rather than try to suppress it. While it made it more difficult for him to form bonds with the people around him, his parents relied on his visions - perhaps too much.   Nao - and later their younger sister, Mame - greatly respected and adored their older brother. But the pair also saw how Gakke pushed themself - how their parents put too much pressure on him to see the future, and to clearly explain their often confusing and dream-like prophesies so they could react appropriately. Over time, this pressure turned to abuse - the Kings isolating Gakke in a high tower so he could physically see more and refusing to allow him to come into contact with anyone besides their family. They found his vision were tied closely to Gakke's personal experiences, and so knew he would see only major events and anything that could befall them personally by doing so.   It became too much for their siblings to bear - Nao challenged his father to a duel for the position of Petty King once he turned two hundred, the age of majority for demons. Having trained in the healing arts, Nao used his knowledge of poisons to prevail - and proceeded to ban both of his parents from the city entirely. While Nao took over rule of the city, Mame - still an adolesencent - took Gakke to move in with their aunt, High Priestess of Naosuli.   Gakke enjoys the peace, quiet, and wide open fields outside the temple - and while they still make prophesies, it is no longer demanded of them. The three siblings have remained close, Nao continuing to rule the city, and Mame training as a priestess herself.   Template article: @Gakk
