The Before
[May 2023] An Era of Calm has descended upon the Tydland! But in that calm, the lords of Tyland have quietly begun to amass resources and power for who knows what end. Warden Wulfric has inherited the crown, we shall see how long he can keep it.
[May 2022] Currently in the lands of the Shifting Tides. It has been five years since the survivors sealed themselves in against Mictlān's Calling, and the denizens of Aztlán have grown weary and long to learn return to their homes of old. And so, gathering the strongest among them, they set out to clear the mountain pass that brought them to Aztlán of the mutated goblins that had since claimed it as their own.
After successfully pacifying the mountain pass and clearing up confusion over which Tavern exactly was paying them for their services, the adventures ventured out beyond Itzal. They found the Tydland in disarray, with whispers of new power, the Eternal Flame, a shadowy organization that as far as anyone can tell, cropped up during the cataclysm unleashed by The Call. Many of the old factions are rumored to be under the control of the Eternal Flame, but who and what are they? And what are their intentions for Tydland? Now it is up to the adventurers to decide if they will reaffirm or abandon their old allegiances to the factions? Will they create new powers in their place? Will they continue searching for the stones of power? Will they seek out to join or destroy the Eternal Flame? Do they seek personal glory? Or perhaps they have larger aspirations of uniting the Tylands under a single faction, house, or company banner?
(2020-2022). Southeast of the Itzal Mountains and under the shadow of the Shifting spire, the various factions of Tyland had gathered in conflict over possession of legendary stones of power. And yet this great civil war never happened, it seems that the great cosmos had other plans. While the legions upon legions of soldiers sharpened their blades and told each other tales in the night, a dark force was unleashed upon them. No one knows where the plague came from, but its consequences were swift and cataclysmic. Within a fortnight all the forces gathered at the Shifting Spire had fled, leaving behind legions of dead, and bringing the plague with them as they returned to the four corners of Tydland.
However, not all present at Shifting Spire when the dark forces were unleashed perished, and many of those who were left behind or stayed of their own choosing banded together and sought refuge in the legendary city of Aztlan, rumored to be long abandoned and hidden deep within the Itzal Mountains. The forsaken survivors of the “Great Battle That Never Was” found the abandoned city on the twenty-sixth day of their journey into the Itzal Mountains. And upon finding a city rich enough to sustain its people indefinitely, the survivors decided to seal themselves in to guard against the dangers posed by the plague.
