The Annexation of Yerend
Over two hundred years ago, the Yerendi were thriving and their fledgling nation of Yerend was beginning to find its feet. When the Yerend first learned of another nation to their north, they were at first hoping to establish friendly relations and sent a diplomatic envoy hoping to negotiate some form of friendship or trade agreement. But to the Zira Imperium, they were not a potential friend, they were ripe for conquest.
The conflict was brutal and quick, the relatively modest defense forces of Yerend were no match for the experienced and well honed military of the Imperium, who made short work of the nations limited defenses. They marched their armies south, and after encountering little resistance, they laid siege to Yerend. In a matter of weeks Yerend was captured and occupied. Those who were able to do so fled to the south, taking only what they could carry and bringing with them only who they could save. Those who could not soon found themselves stripped of property and possessions, and now occupying the lowest caste within a much more repressive society.
Within the Imperium's borders, knowledge of this history is passed down only in whispers from one Yerendi to another, in their official version of history, Yerend never existed. Outside their borders, those who fled to found Kerevin's Drop remember what happened much more clearly. They have no love for the imperium and no desire to seek out other settlements, though they will trade with those who come to them. They have chosen the most defensible location they could find, and fear the day that the Imperium once again turns its attention south.
