Thread

A Thread is created when a Needle combines a unit of Io with a drop of the operators blood. This produces a small pill that can then be ingested by another person and that enables them contact the originator using any Needle. It takes the form of a small amber lozenge and dissolves as soon as it is ingested.

Once contact has been established at least once, either party can then contact the other using the Needles. Both parties are always able to identify exactly which 'contact' they are communicating with, although they will not know anything about the person behind that contact.
