United Nations

The United Nations is an international diplomatic and political organization which aims to maintain global peace and security, and encourage friendly relations between nations. It grew out of the League of Nations, and was established after World War II with the aim of preventing further world wars.

It is the world's largest international organization, with 193 countries currently being members. It is funded by voluntary contributions from member states.

It is made up of five main organizations: the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the International Court of Justice, and the UN Secretariat. It opperates many specialist agencies, including the World Bank Group, the World Health Organization, the World Food Programme, the IMF, UNESCO, and UNICEF.
