Welcome to Verdigras

In the sun-kissed hills of the Altesian coast lies the small port town of Verdigras. This scenic vista town resided much in relative peace until about a month ago when a towering obelisk arose from the ocean just off their shores. This fabled tower, known only as the Tower of Ascension is a creation of the gods. A magical structure whose interior is impossibly large.
 
On each floor of the tower are all manner of monster, labyrinth and puzzle. A challenge from the gods to test morals. With each floor climbed, the threats increase and only those who can reach the pinnacle of the tower can earn the ultimate prize. A single wish, to grant whatever your heart desires most.
 
Word of the tower's appearance has spread far and wide. The promise of its illustrious prize luring adventurers from all over the world to try their hand at the tower's challenge. With such an influx of adventurers, Craftsmen and merchants have also found their new home in Verdigras in hopes of getting rich off those brave enough to climb the tower.
   

Where Do I Fit In?

All of the players in this campaign are foreigners to the town Verdigras and the continent of Altesia. While many player characters have come to attempt to climb the Tower of Ascension, that doesn't have to be the case for everyone. Some may seek to profit from the tower's existence. Either by researching to understand the towers purpose or crafting armaments for the tower's climbers. Some players may come to Verdigras for reasons unrelated to the tower completely. For the Altesien coast is a beautiful landscape brimming with magic. There are plenty of unexplored wonders to find and sights to see. There is some something here for everyone.

Upon completing your character's creation, your character will take their first steps into Verdigras' Suncrest Harbor. They are new to these lands and this shore is likely completely different from where you came from. Do not worry about being unfamiliar with the world or lore, chances are your character knows as much about Altesia as you do.
The lands outside the continent of Altesia are intentionally not defined. This ensures that each player is free to define their backstory and purpose as they desire, free from constraints. Players are actively encouraged to create their homeland. To give it a name and description so that game masters came make it part of the world.
   

A Land for the Driven

 
Given the sandbox nature of west marches campaigns, players drive the campaign. While there are some stories and adventures built into the world, much of the campaign's content is created from the goals and actions of the player characters. When a character wants to achieve a goal, they can develop that into a full adventure, impacting the world around them and involving many other players. This is why it is so important to think of your character's personal motivation. If your character's goal is to just climb the tower, that is fine. But be sure to understand their motivation and what they want to wish for.
 

Tone of the Campaign

This campaign has a high-fantasy setting with a vibrant and lively world full of magic. While overall the campaign has a brighter tone, that isn't to say every adventure will be light-heart and silly. The tower is a dangerous place, and while there are safety measures in place to minimize casualties, adventurers can die. Examples of media similar in style to this campaign include:

  • Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
  • Final Fantasy XI
  • Tower of Druaga
  • Tales from Earthsea (Ghibli)
  • Ni No Kuni
  • The Tales series of games (Notably Symphonia and Vesperia)
  • Ragnarok Online

The tone of any individual adventure is largely dependent on the adventure's content. Some adventures may be wholesome and jovial in nature, such as partaking in a local festival. While others can be dark and horrify, such as a haunting in the woods or undead catacombs. In Altesia, you find what you seek.

Campaign Aesthetics

For artistic materials, the game masters will be striving to stick with a more anime/cartoon aesthetic to help keep the world homogenous. Feel free to let this style influence your choice in character art or appearance details. Colorful hairstyles and elaborate outfits and accepted within this campaign.
