XVIII - Nyx, Mistress of the Night

Embodying the celestial body of the moon, Nyx’s cruel presence can be felt over Midgaros each and every night. She blots out the sky with the darkness of night to limit mortal sight, she emboldens the monsters of the wild to incite further destruction, and she corrupts the dreams of Desna with twisted nightmares to torment those she chooses. Nyx hates mortals. They scurry about upon the shell of Midgaros like parasites desecrating her brother’s corpse. Leeching ill-gotten magic from the gods and calling it their own.

If it were not for the intervention of Soliel and the other goods, all mortal life would find a painful end by Nyx’s hand. Soliel and the others see good in the mortals that Nyx cannot, and they protect these fragile creatures by banishing Nyx from the mortal plane. Though unable to materialize upon Midgaros, Nyx is clever and seeks less direct forms of destruction. She twists the night into something to be feared, and those who wander the darkness ill-prepared will find themselves a gruesome end.

Given her animosity towards mortals, there are few temples and places of open worship to Nyx. Even institutes who worship all of the gods tend to shy away from Nyx. That isn’t to say she goes without worship, as she heeds any prayer from someone seeking to kill another. It is said she will ensure your dagger strikes true and your murder be discrete. This makes her a favorable deity for assassins and criminals. Though even thick skulled criminals knows that Nyx does not care for them, she just finds these violent acts amusing
.

Appearance

Given her inability to manifest upon Midgaros, Nyx’s appearance is largely unknown. However, old texts describe Nyx to have the appearance of a tall feminine tiefling of deep purple or even black hue. White glowing stars dot her cheeks and skin like freckles, and long white hair hangs over her shoulders. Her attire is often depicted as a long shimmering gown, like starlight. Unlike her sister Soliel, she is no warrior. She is instead touted as a powerful spellcaster and master illusionist, capable of distorting reality to her whim.
