This Bunch of Fools
Having found my way to Elend's hideout, I proceed to sneak in past all of zero guards and other magical defenses. I'm in luck, an old friend seems to have swung by, and Elend's catching up with him. He immediately confesses to killing the priests of the Church of War, among a number of other exploits. In his rapid fire torrent of information, he also briefly mentions something about them letting orcs in, and summoning monsters. I do have to consider the possibility, the priest he killed deserved it. Can't call the kettle black and all that. Though he hardly seems stable enough to be judging morality.
I'd normally lurk and try to find clues at this point, but I'm anxious to go home. So I jump the gun a bit and go for an interrogation. He walks off to his room alone. Took the largest room of course, being a lelf. Anyhow, give him the old silence treatment, and quickly tie him up, and am about ready to start interrogating him. Somehow he can still cast spells though! He starts spewing fire everywhere. I manage to get him down anyhow. Now that the rooms on fire, I decide to leave through the wall. This is chamber pot falls the stairs. Not quite used to carrying captives, I manage to drop him on the way out. Still kicking my self for that one.
I dash back to grab him, but just that moment, his friends dash in and grab him, must have smelt the smoke. Crap, crap crap. I step out.
I should back off and try again later. I'll be ready for his spells next time. But I need this over so I can straighten out whats going on back at hq. I sneak back in, and find them trying to wake him. No healers or anything, finally some luck. I pull a desperate move and drop darkness over the group, grab him and make a break for it. The incompetent idiots barely realize what's happened. I'm out the gate by the time their even looking for me, even while dragging Elend with me.
I get him far enough away, and start to interrogate him. He swears at me of course. Not the brightest I can see. I ask him to defend his actions. His first answer is:
"Well, I was drunk most of the time."
Can you believe it! Some of these nobles take no responsibility for their actions. The rest of what he says amounts to "My friends told me too". I'm seriously considering slitting his throat. It's odd though, normally intel pegs the ringleader pretty solidly. I should get to the bottom of this.
I take him back and try to get the leader group to explain themselves. Seems like the rest of them are almost as incompetent as Elend. Seems the excuse is roughly they attacked us without provocation. Somehow I doubt its without provocation. They also are supposed to be using monsters or that they polymorphed into monsters. Its kinda unclear. One though, the dragonborn, pipes up and mentions that they confessed to planning on kidnapping the. I don't know why they didn't lead with that.
Something's off
Everything felt wrong at hq. Apparently overnight they all decided to take up arms against the high elf government, who we've spent years trying to improve. Every one seems in on it, even Lorlyn and Gorrin. After something touched my mind, trying to influence it, I'm pretty sure this change is more than just a change of heart. Anyhow, I'm happy to be away from there.
