Baggage Trains

Most armies need a baggage train when on the march and/or making war. This comes from the fact that the majority of armies need to eat, sleep, get healed, and/or relax between engagements. The baggage train will have all of these at least to some extent. Tents or similar structures are provided, meals are prepared, water or other such liquids are stored ready for use, different types of healers are present too. In rare cases id close enough to a settlement there might even be prostitutes organised, even though most militaries forbid this.   The different makeup of the train can scavenge for they don't have at hand from the surrounding region, whether herbs for healing animal & plant resources for food, safe drinking water, or a place & resources that are used for defensive purposes. Sometimes a local building or settlement will be took over to act as a base for the train, especially if it needs to be restocked with the necessary equipment. Pack animals, porters, messengers, a few livestock, the odd boss, specialists such as blacksmiths & carpenters, wagons, and assorted tools, are present in such a baggage train.   In many instances, the warriors that are present will carry enough gear to last themselves for a few days before expiring, as well asĀ  parts of gear being damaged or lost in one way or another. This makes the baggage train important for larger campaigns. Also, certain armies have a tradition of being made of tribal members, and peoples such as the Celts would have families or clans people accompany filling in this way instead of professionals.
