Caltrop

Caltrops have been used since early Roman times. Shaped out of metal, each as at least four sharpened metal spikes, and when thrown on an are at least three spikes are resting downwards with the remaining facing up. Painful & damaging to step on, it is used as an area denial item. It is used in this method to stop cavalry and foot soldiers attacking across a specific part of the battlefield, or in general usage to prevent anyone or creature from entering an area that's off-limits.
