Camels

Dromedary and Bactrian camels are used in a few lands where there is desert, or desert like, terrain in place of horses. Not as common in the West as in Eastern countries like Mongolia where they originate from, they can survive in the desert for long periods of time without food & especially water. They are used as pack animals and for riding, including in war, as well as general day-to-day uses. They have one or two humps of fat on their backs that can sustain them for a few days, long eyelashes to block out sand & grit, and splayed toes to stop them sinking in soft dusty land.
