Carruca & Ard
The Carruca and the Ard are types of plough used in northern Europe. The latter was developed in the 5th Century and was a standard plough, while the former was developed between the 6th & 9th Centuries, and is a heavy wheeled version. Both are pulled by using oxen, who are used for their docile nature and strength. The benefit of using these, is that it is easier to plough soil with rocks & tree roots present. The Ard is light enough to make the job quick, but not as effective as the Carruca. The Carruca is heavy, and slow to use & turn, the benefit being that the farmer could shift more dirt, rocks, and roots, while having a system that could help lay seeds more evenly & efficiently.
