Darkness Rising
The team are called to deal with a problem outside of Eschbach. An empty tomb has been discovered.
Plot points/Scenes
A wood elf charcoal burner wanders into Eschbach looking for help. His colleagues & him discovered an old tomb of a Celtic warrior, to the north west just on the other side of the east-west running stream. It was broken into and was in a rocky grave. Nothing seemed to be taken, at least to his eyes.
If investigated, the team will find little tracks on the ground though examining some of the trees, and a few tracks on the ground & in the grave shows hands & feet are thin & clawed. Further investigation shows that it took strength to move some of the rocks, and that ogham symbols on the tomb has a strange meaning.
The symbols say: "To the west near the coast is the dark one that takes life. There he rests with his tools of death. And to the north east lies is friends, the ones who shun life, and gave words of power over death. And to the south east lies the others, in-between life & death, and gives powerful gifts of death. In the grave of my body is the moonlight key to my dark kin's wares."
They find that a damaged necklace has been removed from the neck of the dead. The only other objects of note is a Celtic bronze sword (a +1 longsword), and a shield (a +1 shield), along with a strange pearl with a small ogham symbol set on it. It says: "Focus". If it is examined by a magic user it can be used as a focus for spellcasting giving advantage on spellcasting rolls three times before crumbling to dust. It is one of a missing pouch that is centuries old from the west coast of Ireland.
The team is unaware that they are being watched. A Frankian spy (called Claude) is in the area looking for a young woman called Cyrielle de Orleans. Nobody knows who this is except some from the surname and know they are a noble family from Orleans. If questioned correctly they will find that he is trying to keep tabs on her for his mistress, Gabrielle de Rais.
At night the spy will be killed by a Nosferatu, and the noise of it will awaken others nearby. Also, they will find that the Nosferatu was the one who broke into the tomb, retrieving the remains of the necklace (the moonlight key). It is half an inch wide silver disk with ogham symbols scrawled on it saying: "I am to be placed in the entrance to the tomb of the dark one."
By the time this comes, no-one is able to tell where this dark one's tomb is.
