Dwarven Hammer Guard

Dwarven Hammer Guard are one of three types of specialist infantry formations used by the Dwarf race. They are units made up of experienced warriors, and preference for fighting in heavy armour. They usually use full plate and have shields. Weapons consist primarily of war hammers, which can be changed to war picks or battle axes as necessary, depending on the opponents they face. Nearly all have spears too, allowing them to get close with their hammers. Their heavy armour & shields, as well as the Dwarves themselves make for a tough battle line which is hard to shift. Even if broken through, a good number of Dwarves will survive even if injured.
