Egyptian Pyramids
The Egyptian Pyramids are some of the most well-known tombs in the known world. Built thousands of years ago, by skilled workmen for the pharaohs, they are still standing. Each acts as a tomb for a specific pharaoh, and filled with his sarcophagus & the canopic jars for their organs, each is well protected outside and in. Stone (red granite) walls line everything, and the sarcophagus itself has an outer layer of the same stone covering. Different entrances / exits, and tunnels are built and sealed. This though, has not stopped some from being targeted by grave robbers. The main region itself is at Giza, outside Cairo., with several there including the largest attributed to the pharaoh Khufu. The earliest known Egyptian pyramids are found at Saqqara, northwest of Memphis, although at least one step-pyramid-like structure has been found at Saqqara, dating to the First Dynasty. Many have inscriptions in Egyptian Hieroglyphs and the pyramids at Giza, at least, had been built with sandstone & capped with a layer of limestone on the outside of them. Around many there were towns built to house the workers & their families, along with storage areas, and diverted parts of the Nile.
The earliest pyramids were also step pyramids, and were likely influenced by the Mesopotamian Ziggurats. Some of the locals believe the pyramids, and surrounding regions, as well as any ruins nearby are haunted. They believe that the pharaohs and their priests believed themselves to be gods, and still walk the earth around these. Their minions supposedly carry out their orders and pray daily to them hoping for their return to full life, or for the world to be turned into a gigantic tomb. Quite a few also say that there is a risk to anyone who disturbs the dead in them that the dead will attack the living, and graverobbing will also bring the dead back to life.
