The Fey Realms are home to many fantastic peoples, including fairies. Fairies are a wee folk, but not nearly as much as their Pixie & Sylph friends the first languages were Elvish, Goblin, or Sylvan, but after encountering other races, especially the human worlds, they learned Common too.
They found these worlds tantalising as the Material Planes were entirely different in many aspects, and the peoples had a different approach to life. Each civilisation they met eventually developed myths & legends around the Fey in general, and the word 'fairy' became a catchall term for the Fey. This in part is due to the Fairies interacting more directly with other races instead of fleeing, hiding, or carrying out obnoxious or downright dangerous acts to them.
