The Holy Lance (also known as: Lance of Longinus, Spear of Destiny, or the Holy Spear) is the spear / lance used to pierce the side of Jesus when he hung on the cross.

It is hunted by all manner of beings & groups, not least hunters of the undead, and Christian Churches. A few others hunt it to destroy it, because of what it represents. Nobody can tell where it presently rests, and a few churches claim to having parts of it as Relics. Hated by fiends and powerful undead, they will happily see it banished if not destroyed outright. They also know that it can be used to tempt righteous souls to their cause under the belief they are doing good. In the process rivals of their own are usually removed while the pawn does their bidding unaware. The churches and their like, seek it to aid them in the battle against evil, and will pay any price to have it in their collection.

The design of it is a lance or spear of Roman design, and was used by a Roman soldier called Longinus to test to see if Jesus had died. Blood and water had seeped from his body onto the point, imbuing it with religious power.
