Thebes & Luxor

Thebes was a city in Egypt 600 miles inland from the Mediterranean sitting on the banks of the Nile. It is in ruins now, with many of these ruins still partially standing. After the fall of the city, a new city started to be built in it's place called Luxor. Thebes itself fell into disuse from the closing period of 91 BC. This was caused initially by a series of revolts by the local population that drove off the rulers. By the time it started to turn into Luxor, the Greeks had full control, and the Romans were taking over. It is close to Nubia, and the East Desert.   Many of the old temples still have remains here, and it has the Valley of the Kings, and Valley of the Queens nearby, along with necropolis of royalty, nobility and the priesthood. Also present is the remains of the Temple of Luxor, and the Temple of Karnak, and the Great Temple of Amun, along with the Avenue of the Sphinxes. Other temples, obelisks, and tombs are scattered around. Many of these are found on the east bank, while Luxor is on the west, though quite a few are found within the city limits of Luxor.   As usual about such a city in Egypt, rumours of graverobbing has spread saying that quite a bit of treasure is found in open tombs & temples. The stories still points to possible curses being hidden in them, and stories of the undead area bound. The latter usually helps keep some graverobbers away as the locals always knows 'a friend of a friend, of a friend' who got their hands on a piece of the grave goods, and were hunted down & killed by the restless dead. Sometimes the stories will involves the old gods getting their revenge instead on those who grave rob from priests, and from the old temples.
