Viscount
A Viscount (coming from the old French Visconte), is a non-hereditary title at present. It is used when a person of high enough stature in the nobility is proclaimed as a member of the judiciary, in which they advise, enable, and enact laws in a nominated region on behalf of higher ranking nobility. It is customary for the viscounts to be non-hereditary to prevent them working the laws & courts to their own advantage, and gaining power in this way, as well as preventing them potentially rebelling and enforcing tax laws for their own benefit.
