Warcasters

Warcasters are military trained spellcasters. They are usually wizards who specialise in destructive and/or defensive spells, as well as buffing friendly units, and debuffing enemy units. Rarely if ever are sorcerers or warlocks used, mainly for the fact they can be unpredictable, though when applied they are sent far ahead into enemy ranks or territory to cause maximum disruption.
Most warcasters are trained in secret by cabals of wizards who vet each warcaster before turning them over to the military. All the while being trained they are usually called upon to get experience while in actual battles & raids. Again, most warcasters are tied to nobility to keep an eye on them, and they are usually found in more settled lands.
A few warcasters are found in other regions but only rarely. Many of these are the remnants of other military formations who have been destroyed, or are sorcerers / warlocks fulfilling the role instead.
