Wends

The Wends are a group of Slavs that inhabit the region to the northeast of Old Saxony. They are made up of different tribes & groups of Slavs that are known to some such as the Saxons & especially the Danes as pirates & raiders. They are known by having many settled aea with settlements of differing sizes in their territory. When on pirate raids, they use smaller ships that are produced similarly to Norse ships.These are caulk built with overlapping planks nailed into place, with a covering of tree sap or oil. There is enough room for two horses on each ship. This is also evident on land based raids too, where they rely on a number of cavalry units. This has attracted to attention of the Franks who ally with the Wends at times, usually against the Saxons.
Some tribes live on the western Baltic Sea, and are allied to the Danes regularly. Doing this allows them to gain money from from being hired as mercenaries to the Danes. Though saying this, they sometimes team up with their own tribal peoples for raids on countries around the Baltic Sea.

"We've fought with them before. The Wends are as much a bunch of raiders as the Saxons. What makes the difference is their use of cavalry. Almost as good as ours. Still, they fight like a bunch of rabble compared to ours."
