Personal history

Dark was 'born' in Josh's teenage years. At the time, “Joshy-boy” was Josh’s nickname among his family. It was affectionate, but over time the trauma of being there outweighed any positive memory associated with it – especially seeing as it was often shouted to him midway through combat, or by ‘carers’ trying to manipulate him or just mocking him.
When 'Josh' started to refer to himself as that, his siblings stopped. It wasn’t a playful nickname any longer – it was a sign something was seriously, seriously wrong. eventually it became a trigger. If anyone were to slip and call him that, they’d be lucky to get through the next few minutes without seeing Dark. The boy was a protector and a prosecutor -- determined to end the lives of 'threats' around him or else end the life of his own body to free them.
After Josh escaped the facility, he and his system worked with Dark to learn with and pacify him, treating him as he was -- a frightened teenager who didn't know any better. These days he acts as a defense against the Controller and takes care of the body's thirst for blood, often fronting in situations of extreme stress.

Mental Trauma

Dark carries the majority of the system's trauma surrounding their vampirism and the terrible things they had to do under the Controller's thumb. As a result, he is bitter and antisocial, preferring to keep to himself and just get whatever the current task is over with. Though negotiation and discussion with the rest of the system has calmed him down considerably, Dark is still prone to outbursts of violence and self-destruction if subject to enough stress.
