Personal history

Elyan is the prodigal son in a happy family of five -- or he was. As a child he spent a lot of his time reading to his younger brother, Josh; and later to his baby sister Lydia. His favourite stories were the ones his parents told him, about King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. His parents, Lawrence and Julia, did everything they could to keep their little family whole and happy. Life was good.
At least, for a while.
When he was ten years old, his happy family life was torn apart as a group of people -- impossibly fast, impossibly strong -- broke into his family's home and snatched Josh. His mother was killed in the attack, and Ely himself was severely wounded; both protecting Josh from the inevitable. Lawrence and Lydia came out safe and alive -- but Lawrence was never the same. He was cold and snappish, refusing to acknowledge anything unusual about the attack and chalking his son's memories of phantom blades and super-speed down to delusion; incapable of coping with the entire event.
As Elyan grew older, more and more issues began to show themselves. The boy suffered increasingly severe and intense hallucinations, mood swings, and paranoia -- and soon the delusions his father had always insisted he had became a reality. Still, he gritted through it for the most part, managing to complete his University studies and gain a job in the police force (though to this day he still questions how he was ever able to do so with his declining mental health).
He worked with the force for a few years, content in his job, but life at home was getting increasingly stressful, and before long Elyan found his delusions and hallucinations too much to bear. After being discharged from the force due to his health, he ended up in a violent incident with his family which left him hospitalised and treated for Schizoaffective Disorder.
It was only when he was out of hospital and in recovery that he found out what his sister had taken up as a job while he was away -- a gun-for-hire and arms dealer. When he discovered she was actively searching for Josh he went with her; leaving home and following Lydia across the globe in search of some kind of lead as to where he might have been taken
