Personal history

Isadora has lived in the heart of the swamp for as long as anyone can remember. Her ramshackle cottage, woven from the gnarled roots and creeping vines of the swamp, stands hidden amidst the dense thickets and misty waters. To the untrained eye, it might seem like a part of the landscape itself, but to those who know the swamp’s secrets, it is the home of the reclusive swamp witch.   Isadora was once a vibrant and powerful sorceress, known throughout the lands for her deep knowledge of herbalism and her healing magic. She was respected, if not always loved, by those who sought her aid. However, as the years passed, the demands of the outside world became too much for her. She grew weary of the constant pleas for help and the unending stream of visitors who interrupted her peace. Seeking solitude, she retreated deeper into the swamp, far from the prying eyes and incessant chatter of the townsfolk.   In her isolation, Isadora found peace and a deeper connection to the natural world. She tended her garden, filled with rare and magical plants, and communicated with the creatures of the swamp. Her hearing began to fade with age, but she found that she didn’t mind the silence. It allowed her to focus on her work and the gentle whispers of the swamp’s spirits.   To protect her home and garden from intruders, Isadora created Rattles, a scarecrow imbued with simple, protective magic. Crafted from sturdy branches, old clothes, and a carved pumpkin head, Rattles was brought to life with a spell that gave him a semblance of awareness. He could move, rattle, and scare off anyone who dared to approach Isadora’s cottage without her permission.   Despite her reclusive nature, Isadora is not unkind. Those who manage to find her and show respect are often met with surprising warmth. She has healed lost travelers and provided remedies for those in dire need, but she always insists on being left alone afterward. Her heart is kind, but her desire for solitude is stronger. Her life in the swamp is one of quiet contentment, surrounded by the natural world she loves and protected by her faithful scarecrow, Rattles.
