Hope's End
Hope’s End sits deep within the Ichal Nebula at the terminus of the Exiles' Path, the infamous Lazax penal route. The intense radiation of the system’s neutron star scours the world, encouraging the planet’s hardy wildlife to rapidly mutate. These conditions made Hope’s End a crucible for the Lazax’s most elite troops.
Despite the danger, Hope’s End is a strikingly beautiful world. Fierce auroral storms light the hazy-red, sunless sky. This normally mimics the brightness of a moonlit night, but at times the green auroras can surge so intensely they temporarily blind sighted beings. These surges are matched by ionization so extreme that the ashen metallic sands rain upward toward the sky, caught in powerful magnetic fields that also scramble sensors and communications.
While the Lazax legions have long gone, in their hasty departure, they left behind a series of military outposts and Imperial arms vaults. Scavengers have pillaged a handful in the intervening millennia, but most have become concealed beneath the surface. The planet’s unstable climate means surface structures can become buried within a few decades.
Owing to its accelerated resurfacing and extreme danger, Hope’s End may have the largest and most intact collection of Lazax artifacts outside of Mecatol Rex. Many would-be looters have met their ends within minutes of planetfall, while major expeditions must contend with the nearby Mentak Coalition.
Although the Imperium has fallen, elite fighting forces from across the galaxy still journey to Hope’s End to prove their mettle. Presenting a trophy from Hope’s End, such as the tusk of an ultramantis or a helmet of the VI Legion, distinguishes the bearer as one of the toughest survivors in the galaxy.
Imperial Arms Vault
Hidden beneath the surface of Hope’s End lies a series of Lazax weapons caches. These vaults contain enough war stock to outfit entire legions with everything from infantry equipment to heavy weapons to light vehicles and mechs. Some even include experimental weaponry such as dangerous bacterial bioweapons.
