Greyhyx

The Polyarchy in the Shadow of Akkon

"The layered rule that we, in part, help coordinate in the new territories of the old Imperium has been accused, by some in our honourable circle of equals, of being arbitrary, dishonest, and unjust to its peoples. This could not be further from the truth. [...] The work we do there is transitory, not perpetual. It takes time, effort, and commitment to build a functioning society from still-smoldering embers and to deviate from the current arrangement is to doom it in its cradle."

Varnon, King and High Judge of Akkon, during the annual meeting of the Noble Alliance in 1041 AM.

The central region of shattered Hyx is known as Greyhyx, though this term is also commonly used to refer to all lands of the fallen Imperium. Its constituent towns, villages, and supporting infrastructure has been constructed as a result of gruelling reclamation campaigns spearheaded by the Radiant Throne of Akkon and Mountain Massive Continental in the centuries following the Deluge. Today, it is a territory defined by its uneven relationship to its many patrons, of which the Crown of Akkon and Flagship Corporation of Malakad are but two of a multitude.

Structure

Legally, the towns of Greyhyx are bound by similar Articles of Restriction as are the Helvatian Clans; the settlements may not form any type of political association with each other, are forbidden from having standing militias, and must consult its patrons before greenlighting urban expansion or resource exploitation operations. However, unlike the Helvatian Articles, Greyhyxian settlements are not allowed to form governments, courts, and business enterprises at the local level; this is a responsibility delegated to outside entities such as the Royal Assembly of Greyhyx, the Union Synod, and the Four Magnates' Moot. Consequently, the people in Greyhyx answer to several nations and organisations without truly belonging to any one of them.

Demography and Population

Most of the Greyhyxian civilian population is descended from the goblinoid Blackspine warbands that decided to settle there after the Deluge, having grown tired of war after fighting for twenty years against the Abyss. Some standouts amongst the first settlers are the Ebon Slayers, Khigal Khard, Grim Maulers, and Qon Droshnal, four clans who were some of the Brass Pact's most devoted proponents. A sizeable minority population of humans and dwarves have also come to live in Greyhyx since.
