Izdubar

The Great Diplomat of Kartia

Izdubar the Peerless, the Great Diplomat of Kartia, Architect of the Brass Pact, the last Judge-King of Jalron; the late ruler of the southern judgeships has had an incomparable personal legacy on the continent. His earliest achievement, the creation of the Union Synod, an international assembly of the leading judges and magistrates in Mosehyria, led to the consolidation of the northern judgeships into Akkon and that of the southern into Jalron. Whilst Akkon in practice continued its tradition of rule by inheritance, Izdubar formalised the judicial elective system that was in place, allowing noble and commoner alike to serve in their local courts. The successful implementation of these radical policies is chiefly attributed to the constitutional changes that Izdubar put forward; with the consent of the high nobility, Jalron's hereditary monarchy was due to be abolished in favour of a noble oligarchy. However, this was postponed due to the arrival of the Umbral Deluge.   As soon as news of Vyriavaxus' invasion reached the south, Izdubar began laying the groundwork for what would become the Brass Pact by entering into a comprehensive alliance together with Akk-Ur and several of the most influential Helvatian clans. He also sent out offers of negotiation to the High Kingdom of Malakad and the elven Lordships, but these were less keen on joining; the collapse of the bordering Imperium of Hyx incentivised them into considering otherwise. And though Hyx had fallen, its border province of Bar-Sinha managed to retain some semblance of central authority, and quickly rallied to the new Brass Pact. It is unclear exactly how Izdubar managed to earn the respect of the participating Blackspine Warbands. Some dubious legends claim that he felled the feared black dragon Garmisax in single combat, whilst others tell of how he defeated the meanest and greenest orc warchief he could find in unarmed combat; whatever the truth, he accomplished something that has not been reproduced since.   Izdubar was no stranger to battle, and once the Brass Pact was fully realised, he spent the rest of his days on the front lines against the Abyssal invaders. He was proclaimed dead after the Battle of Tor Elvatar. Monuments, districts, and floating gardens were raised in his honour; yet the worldly legacy he spent a lifetime building was shattered mere months after the final defeat of the Dark Host. Akkon the Builder had betrayed the Helvatian clans by invading them and the venerable realms of the dwarves and elves descended into splinter and discord. A dream shattered, but evidently the man who dreamt it was not dead.

Last judge-king of Jalron, a powerful magic user, and currently plotting to kill the Demon Lord of Shadows.
