Session 12: Into the Shadows

General Summary

In the childhood bedroom of Aurora, a long fated encounter had just taken place. With the curious Trinky watching them, Aurora and her elven half-brother Apieros embraced after being separated since childhood. The elf had been sent away to study magic, whilst Aurora stayed behind. He was much older than her, but still he was the only one who ever showed her genuine affection during her childhood. The two caught up a bit and to Trinky's dismay, she revealed what they knew of the Broken Eye, even though Trinky seemed to show interest in the elven wizard. This caught the attention of Auroras brother who told them that he had knowledge of the shard their father protected and that he was willing to help them get it. The reason he gave was that he too wanted a perfect wish as well, in order to resurrect his dead mother. Trinky didn't seem to fully trust him but still went along with it.   Meanwhile, Ravojhan and Quinumo had reconvened at the local inn after the dragonborn's pranks in the tavern. There Aurora's father had set them up with a room for them and Trinky. Tired from a long day of traversing the woods, they both lied down to rest. Soon thereafter they were joined by Aurora, Trinky, and Apieros. They shared what they had talked about and the wizard told them what he knew of the shard. He then shared his suggestions for how they could get it before Aurora and he left the inn, letting the rest of the party think it over.    The following morning they once more reconvened at the inn, where they made themselves ready to start their quest. They then left for the cave where the shard was kept. The plan was simple. The shard was magically parallel locked with the Shadowfell. Therefore they had to venture into this realm, which twistedly mirrored their own, the antithesis of the Feywild. There they would find the same cave, take the shard, and venture back. The gate to the Shadowfell was situated two hours away, meaning that they would have to traverse this dark and dangerous landscape in order to fetch the shard. After discussing whether they were ready for such a task, they left for the gateway.    With both Aurora and Apieros leading the way, the group quickly made their way to the bramble-clad arch that was the gateway into the Shadowfell. The party entered and found the lush forests exchanged for a blackened, chain-clad canopy. From the distance, they heard screams from horrid flying creatures flying about. The party quickly made their way along the dark roots of the shadowy forest. After an hour they stumbled upon a small clearing with a ghastly white creature in it. Its wide mouth had sharp teeth and a grotesquely long tongue. It was shuffling a deck of cards. When the party approached it challenged them to a game of Seule and after deep consideration, they accepted as long as there was no agreement of punishment or bets. The party won and got back on track once more.    After another hour they finally made it back to the cave. Inside they found the shard held loosely in place by the roots of a shadowy tree up above. Around it Apieros found runes, that seemed to hold some form of spell. After deep consideration and debate the party gave the eye to Quinney who then stood on one side of the shard, with Trinky on the other holding Ravojhans staff. She then tried to poke the shard out of its hold, with enough force to make it pass over the runes so Quinumo could cath it. The gnome, however, didn't possess sufficient strength and as she poked it with all her force, it fell down flat on the runes, which promptly started to glow.    The cave lit up with an intense blinding light, which seemed to travel upwards along the roots and up the tree. Left with the shard and an eerie silence. As they realized they would have to run, Quinumo instantly reunited the shard with the amulet. And much like last time when Ravojhan did the same thing, he fell unconscious. Thus Ravojhan and Apieros had to carry him as they left the cave. Outside they were met by the view of a horde of screaming flying beasts approaching them, as well as a huge shadowy being towering over the blackened trees, lumbering towards them. Thus they ran towards the gateway, veering a bit to the LEFT!!! in order to avoid the lumbering being.    Along the way, Quinny woke up and they saw the ghastly being laughing at them as they went. When they made it to the gateway, it was infested with dark chain-clad beings with purple/blue skin. Apieros cast haste on Quinumo as he held the eye and told him to run. Ravojhan ran up cast sleep on two of the beings, and then began to shoot the beings with eldritch blasts, but was bound in the monster's chains. Aurora shot one of her blink arrows at the gate and teleported ahead. Apieros managed to run past beings and was first to leave with Aurora. Trinky managed to run around where the sleeping beings were powerless to stop her, thus she made it to the gate. Seeing all that was happening, Quinumo used his magical speed, given by Aurora's brother, along with his magical blur sword, to draw all the beings attention and save Ravojhan twice from the binding chains. All the while being attacked and shot with hooked chains, unable to hit him as he dashed about the battle with magical speed. He was then pulled through the gate by Trinky, with Ravojhan being the last to leave.    As they found themselves back in the material plane, they now had yet another shard of the broken eye. During their escape, Quinny had gotten a vision during his sleep. A vision of a land of knights and fairytales. Suddenly it had been drowned in blood.
