Session 12: The Mage's Road

General Summary

After discovering that Jeanne had disappeared from the city, the party went to fetch their wagon from the frankonian embassy before leaving north. Inside Jeanne had left a gift for Jennie. A book made for learning elven. The party then left the capital and headed north to join Helga and Olga in their hunt. On the way, they met a black knight who was traveling in the same direction. Afte while they struck up conversion, and thus Alessandra Arkadian, a hellknight of the secretive order of the vice, joined the party. Together the group traveled northwards along the Mages Road into the Feyfire forest, talking and getting to know each other as they went.
In the forest, they found a merchant's cart that had been attacked and overrun by a beast. The party investigated the site and found that the cart had been attacked by a large catlike creature with more than four limbs. The merchant and horses had been dragged away into the forest on the eastern side of the road, leaving the cart empty with its cargo. The part decided not to follow the tracks, but opted to continue north to the inn along the road in order to rest up and asses their chances before the fight. Also to keep the horses and Jennie away from the fight.
When they arrived at the Treetop Inn they got themselves lodged and settled before spending the night in the bar along with the other guests. By doing so they found out that the beast was most probably of fey origin and that he was described to have tentacles by a squirrel. With this description, Thylius managed to crack that this beast was in fact a displacer beast. A mystical fey monster with the power ta make itself hard to visually pinpoint. Meanwhile, Jorik managed to find out that the Red Velvet clan had indeed passed along the Mages Road and headed towards Oakenhold. The party then rested and the following day left to hunt.
They made it back to the site of the attack and now followed the tracks into the forest. In the end they found a cave. As they tried to plan Jorik, Helga and Olga marched into the cave. The rest followed. Inside they were met by a pair of Displacer beasts. After a hard and arduous fight, Alessandra managed to pierce one of the beast's hearts with her cold iron sword, and Jorik managed to chop the other's head off. Now left in the cave, the group started to collect trophies and goods from the corpses. Meanwhile, Vexna investigated the cave further and managed to deduct that the pairs cubs had been killed by a band of young local hunters. These had then been killed and, along with the cubs, had had their corpses dragged to the den. The beast had from that point been extra aggressive, collecting food for their now-dead children in hopes of waking them up.
