Session 3: Journey to Grimhammer
General Summary
After defeating the cultists the party turned to Fredrick Drake, the farmhand. They captured him and later turned him into the patrolling dragonguards. They then decided on Vexna the Silver Champions initiative to stay and help Peter as much as they could now that he no longer had a farmhand.
They stayed for two weeks, during which Vexna and Varinel decided to also help Bill Hilly rebuild his cabin. On their way into the forest, they encountered a friendly gnome druid named Yujin and his companion, a snow-white wolf, who decided to join the party. After the rebuilding was finished Bill told Varinel about an ancient ruin northeast into the forest.
Together with Yujin, Vexna, Varinel, and Talien also investigated a threatful sign they had passed on their way to the farm. It turned out the sign was put up by an ogre looking trying to impress a female. With some diplomacy, Vexna managed to convince the ogre named Ogh to follow them to the Duststone farm and take Fredricks's place as a farmhand.
After a while, the party decided that it was time to continue their journey. Varinel, who as a former archaeologist was intrigued by the prospect of ancient ruins, manages to convince his companions to journey into the forest to explore said ruins. The rest of the party agrees, even Francis who was on his way home to Zimea.
Whilst traveling through the forest the party encountered the camp of two ogres, with a third tent filled with wooden signs that seemed abandoned. Some members of the party slew these ogres and looted their camp, whilst the other looked on. They later happened upon a turtle that was stuck in a trap, presumed to be one of the ogres. But when the turtle was freed it turned out to be an elven druid who thanked the party and warned them about the dangers of the ruins. Ignoring these warnings, the party continued onward and discovered a treant named Boetch. He had gotten stuck between two giant boulders and could not free himself. With the help of Taliens magical skills, the treant was shrunken a bit and thus freed. He blessed them with barkskin as a thank you and then moved on.
The party then finally arrived at the ruins where they discovered that it was now inhabited by a clan of Stone Giants. The adventurers prepared for combat but first wanted to try and reason with the giants. The diplomatic approach was quite successful and the party was invited as guests. They were greeted by the giant's elder, named Pebblebeard. He invited them to stay and offered them a chance to glimpse at the ruins most sacred treasure, locked in its inner sanctum. To do so, they would have to participate in the tradition of sharing stories at the dinner table. Thus a feast was prepared and after some exploration of the giants home it was discovered that it was the ruins of an ancient dwarven city named Grimhammer.
When evening came the party spent most of the night enjoying the feast and sharing stories with the giants. As such, they were deemed worthy and Pebblebeard brought them along to the inner sanctum of the ruins to witness its greatest treasure.
