array fragment

An array fragment is a rare phenomenon in which a large surge of arcane energy is pulled from The Protean Array into the material world by Tides of Creation. This occurrence creates a large mass of energy, tied to the aspect of an element of arcana, that at such a high density contains mass. The fact that this happens within the vacuum of space is key to it's ability to exist. 
While an array fragment is not sentient, it acts like a magnet, being pulled toward the scent of the array. It's origin is an inherent part of it, and it is unnatural for it to be in this form, as all studies show that an array fragment acts on a single prime directive. Rejoin with the source. This tends to end in such a fragment colliding with a planetoid that has living creatures on it, as they are the purest personification of the array in the material world.
This collision does not allow for this energy to return to the array. Instead, that energy become part of the planetoid, a large force of power that has no directive. It is at this state that the array fragment, if left alone, evolves based on the input into the energy by the planetoid it resides. This evolution over time is what allows the fragment to become what is referred to as a Geocarpic Omniscient Particle, or GOP for short.
