The final act of The Protean Cradle was to create what was later referred to as The Protean Pantheon. The creation of the mantels was not intended to created gods, as The Proteans had no concept of divinity outside of The Divine Architecture. Later on into the events of the Protean Ascension, the ones who held the mantels were referred to as such by the other Highmortals, and revered as such.

After the first three years of the Protean Cradle, The Proteans felt as if they had filled the worlds of The Divine Architecture with enough life for their legacy to be eternal. They had only one last task to perform.

The First God

The Proteans felt that, in order for there to be harmony and order amongst all the creatures that they had created, there needed to be a series of Highmortals selected to help maintain order and keep their creation ongoing, their legacy secure.   Their short period of observation of their creations had provide The Proteans with more mystery and intrigue, and a genuine love for the outcome of the concept of mortality. The fire it stoked in the hearts of the Highmortals, and the urgency to accomplish goals had surpassed The Proteans wildest dreams and expectations.   But in the back of the minds of all Proteans, there was the constant worry that their creation of mortality held one immense threat to their legacy, and that was that no matter what they did the possibility of total extinction of all their creations was always on the table. To try and leave some governing forces in play that could keep extinction from happening.   The first idea they had was to build inanimate idols that could help to maintain order and keep peace. These guardians were the first constructs, and while they served their purpose for basic tasks, The Proteans discovered that they were not capable of the standing ward against the cunning and creativity of the Highmortals.   After the failure of the constructs, which later came to be called The Protean Guard, The Proteans decided that the only way to help maintain the safety of the Highmortals was to appoint from among them. The spark of mortality and the experiences of mortal life were the only way to truly ensure the needed adaptability to keep order.   They began the event formally known as the Protean Ascension by instilling the first mantel upon the first Protean God. A human woman was chosen to be the first to hold the title of The Firstborn, God of Man, and her name was Linolas Kaaren.
