Edict from the Emperor

Good people of Illium,   By edict of his imperial magnificence Emperor Marcos IV the Duke of Illium has been recalled to the Imperial capital to defend it against the barbarous cabal of the heretic general. His magnificence urges calm across the Empire, and assures his good people that the general stands no proper threat to the true Imperial Legion. The Duke Orchus is a treasured cousin and dear servant to his lordship, and the Pearl Throne is lucky to have such allies to come to its aid in this quarrelsome time. The One True God has sent his blessings to the Duke for his voyage. May the faithful of Illium cheer to the Emperor's good health this Midsummer.   His Holiness the Hierophant, lord regent to Emperor Marcos IV.
An official edict from the boy Emperor Marcos IV has called for the Duke's military support in the Imperial Heartland. Unrest has been simmering since under the regency of the Church Hierophant, though few suspected the Imperial Heartland would erupt in civil strife.   The edict pleads for calm, though to summon the duke and legion of a far-flung colony smacks of desperation. As a well-reputed veteran Duke Orchus could be critical in commanding the Emperor's counter-offensive though he leaves his son Tristan as governor in his absence - with little more than a skeleton garrison. The Duke's sailing right before the commotion of Midsummer has the city in a flurry. Though the common folk have little love for Duke Orchus he is still a respectable soldier. Lord Tristan is another matter. His erratic and cruel nature is well rumoured. The weakened garrison is reportedly in drastic need of new recruits, with many of the young peasant men travelling to the capital for the festival considering staying on to join the Legion.
