Magic
Magic is the supernatural power to manipulate the world around you. It is ever-changing, difficult to wield and often costly to mind and body. The different forms of magic each have their own laws and abilities. Magic can mean the elemental fire magic of a sorcerer, the divine blessing of a god or angel, a foul art such as necromancy or demonism or even the subtle magics found in music.
"In a desperate last stand, elfkind turned to the infamous Gathryn the dark elf, whom they called Shadowfriend. At the towers of Glasscastle he stood in bloody ritual and summoned the Black Fey from the fairy realm. The crystal of the elvan city faded to black and horrors clawed through to our realm, screaming in painful birth. Sir Jesson was unperturbed, and rode forth with the firemagi of men. From the magis' staffs there burst great serpents and birds of flame to cleanse the dark blight. In a firestorm the elf Gathryn was incinerated and the Black Fey vanquished. No living soul had seen the high magics collide so fiercely, and no living soul would ever again." "The Fall of Elfkind", inscribed in the Great War relief.
Magic in Today's World
Magic and all things connected to it have diminished in the Age of Steel. Magical beings have dwindled in number and dominion. Though less in-tune with the arcane, even magically-gifted humans have become a rarity. The desperate need to control what is left from the magical world has led the Pearl Emperor to ban its free practice.
