Purple Comet in the Sky

On the eve of Midsummer, over the skies of the known world, a purple comet appeared. It blazed through the night sky brighter than any star, and even glowed against the light of day.
It's coming has been met with dread, excitement and curiosity. Astronomers and holy men cannot explain its origins or appearance. The common folk of Illium are breaking open the season's vintage in celebration of the Midsummer Festival, many call the comet a blessing for another year's fine harvest. The doomsayers and rebels call it an ill omen, marking the downfall of the Duke, or a great invasion by wood elves and desert raiders.
The Comet is arcing fast across the sky, with speculations its landing is imminent. Members of the Starry College have arrived in Marmella to study the comet's course and are apparently inviting any adventurers to discuss "field research" with them.
