Sylvanbark
Sylvanbark is the thick, dense bark of native gum trees in Illium's Sylvan Valley. The bark is treasured by humans for its durability, fragrance and magical absorption. Along with dryad it is one of the many materials of the ancient Sylvan Valley forests that are coveted by Illium's humans but held sacred by the wood elves across the border.
Though once so common as to be turned into household tools and decorative doorframes, sylvanbark has become a more precious commodity in recent generations. When properly treated sylvanbark can be fashioned into bows, staffs and spears. Groups such as the Wandcutters could emblazon glyphs into the wood to give it special properties. Regular weapons made from sylvanbark can prove more reliable and accurate than their oak or yew counterparts.
Sylvanbark is the old, half-petrified skin of old gum trees. In elvan spiritual law the bark can be safely pulled off the trunks of dead trees and put to a practical purpose however it is forbidden to rip it off a still-living tree. Humans are not so discerning.
