Wood Elves

Wood elves are the last remaining elfkind in the world. Elves are a magical people of otherworldly grace, living in the world but not entirely part of it. Whilst elfkind today are not as powerful as they once were, enclaves of wood elves still exist. They live in places of ethereal beauty such as the Rainy Havens south of Illium, in the midst of ancient forests where soft music drifts through the air and gentle fragrances waft on the breeze. Wood elves love nature and magic, art and artistry, music and poetry, and the good things of the wild.   Wood Elves can live well over seven-hundred years, giving them a broad perspective on events that might trouble the shorter-lived races more deeply. They are more often amused than excited, and more likely to be curious than greedy. They tend to remain aloof and unfazed by petty happenstance. When pursuing a goal, however, whether adventuring on a mission or protecting their wooded homelands, elves can be focused and relentless. They are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them. They reply to petty insults with disdain and to serious insults with vengeance.

History

The Age of Glass was an era of widespread elvan prosperity and peace. Their magic flourished in all its splendour and chaos, anchored in a balance between the three races of elves; the high elves in their glass palaces, wood elves in the forests, jungles and marshes, and dark elves in the mountain caverns and underworlds.   With the Dawn of Humankind and the end of elvan supremacy, most of the elves were wiped out. Pockets of wood elves remain in isolation where the deepest forests have not yet been felled by the iron of humankind.

Religion

Wood elves follow the Old Faith - the gods and spirits of Fey, or fairies. These beings live in another mystical realm but their presence in our realm is felt.
