The Greater Histories

The Greater Histories are the seminal collection of histories, both written and assumed. It charts the great timeline of the world. The Greater Histories are part of the Compendium series by the late renowned scholar Archimish the Blind. Though Archimish died nearly a century ago his successors have kept the timeline updated, and frequently have it re-printed.

    The Dawn of Humankind
    Era beginning/end

    With the Great War at an end and the elves of the Heartland vanquished, the Godking Aereas is anointed the first Emperor of Men. His acceptance of the petty kings' crowns marks the beginning of the 'Since Dawn' calendar and a period that would in centuries come to be known as the 'Age of Steel'.

    The Battle of Serry
    Military: Battle

    In the rural town of Serry in the eastern province of Illium, a warband of desert nomads attack the town in the dead of night. The Imperial Legion are slaughtered, though the women of the town take up arms in defence of their homes and successfully repel the warband - thus creating the Shieldmaidens of Serry. The Shieldmaidens continue to defend Serry and its countryside against bandits and raiders.

    Emperor Marcos IV ascends the Pearl Throne
    Political event

    With the death of Emperor Marcos III, his infant son and heir is crowned Emperor Marcos IV. Queen Dowager Andromeda, the boy's mother, steps into the role of regent until the boy comes of age.

    The Hierophant is appointed regent
    Political event

    With the sudden and suspicious death of Queen Regent Andromeda, the royal family is unable to find a suitable candidate to govern the Empire during the young Marcos IV's minority. A council of the Empire's high lords is held in the Imperial Capital and the unanimous decision is made to offer the regency to the Hierophant - head of the Church of the One True God. As a man of faith he is seen as uncompromised in his loyalties, though he is held in low esteem by the common people.
