Cyberware Chip: Debtor's Doom

The Debtor's Doom chip is a design that is frowned upon in the Core Systems but still sees consistent use both there and in the Rim. The spread out nature of the galaxy makes it easy for Debtor's to disappear and leave their debts unpaid. Loan Sharks and those with substantial potential losses can mitigate that by inserting a Debtor's Doom into the victim/person in need of their funds or services.   The chip operates on a payment system. The account broadcasts a very low-level signal that picks up CredSticks that are placed against the surface of the skin where the chip resides. The Chip is configured with a specific amount and interval. If the chip doesn't receive a pre-determined amount of credits each interval, the chip sends an increasingly violent shock through the nervous system of the Debtor. Most chips are inserted in the base of the person's spine to increase this effect, as well as allow the chip to be wired to the spinal column itself to prevent removal before full payment. When the full payment is received, the chip sends out a broadcast to a specific receiver to transfer the funds, falls inert, and can be safely removed.   The technology has been called Barbaric, but it is the backbone of many a financial empire in the galaxy.
