The Purge of Dishonor
While the Gavels operate in near autonomy, they also operate in fear of dishonor. If they are ever found in breach of their codes or are found by The Law to be in dishonor, they are stripped of all ranks and sent to the Purge with all immediate familial relations and any members of their squad. The family and squad mates are bound, forced to kneel, and the dishonored forced to execute each member of their family and squad save one.
Once complete, they must state their dishonor to the one they chose to live and that one must kill them to purge their line of the dishonor. The survivor lives on, though often still unofficially treated by society as disgraced due to being the Purge Survivor. As gruesome as this process is, it is often far better than the alternative of being left in the Purge to starve collectively.
