Shoreneedle
A shoreneedle is a device that aids in navigation and is used for directional orientation. The shoreneedle is usually made up of a casing that contains a magnetic needle that always points toward the exact center of the continent. Shoreneedles are primarily used in ocean sailing, as they will always direct the user back toward the coast.
The ill-fated whaling vessel named the Teapot famously used a shoreneedle to navigate through an icy fog far past the Windward Sea, documented in this account written by a crew member.
