Some disconcerting rumors of the newly established Longostan dominion reached all the way to the foothills of the great mountains where the Caius family ruled their little hamlet. From what they heard a new king had risen up and taken control of the warring tribes, turning that aggression to their neighbors. However, they spared few thoughts to these rumors; the Longostan Dominion stood on the far side of the great mountains. Little did they know that it wasn't just desire for territory that drove the king but a religious fanaticism imparted to the young ruler by his advisor, the leader of the Returnist Cult.

Born into the Returnist Cult, Roman Carter eventually pushed the cult to a position of strength where it is able to accomplish its goals. For the first half of his life, Roman lived and worked as a simple laborer at the desert Oasis of the Returnist Cult. Frustrated by what he saw as a lack of drive by the leaders of the cult he orchestrated a coup and took control.
His the first order of business was to order an split the cult into small chapters who focused on recruitment and information gathering among all the Longostan clans.  By ingratiating himself as the teacher of a youth destined to become leader of one of the larger Longostan clans, he was able to mold the future king into a follower of the Returnists.
