The Eastern Pass

Built above the western pass to guard the valley against potential invaders, the Eastern Pass stands as both a reminder of the dangers of the outside world and the dangers of warping their society around the fear of such an invasion.

Purpose / Function

Originally built as both a forward operating base and a defensive position, the Mountain Scouts used this facility until the time of the second rebellion. As the role of the scouts were changed in later years, the Western Pass shifted its attention inward.

History

Early construction

A joint venture between Vedan and Oss, as mandated by the Treaty of Vedan, was launched to secure the Eastern Pass in the year 14. Construction began with a few small huts, but as more money was requisitioned for the Mountains Scouts these huts were replaced by stone buildings that were a combination of barracks and armory. Nothing in the way of strong fortifications were built for several years.

Escalation

In the decades leading up to the First Rebellion, the Mountain Scouts pushed for stronger fortifications, eventually building two six story towers on either side of the pass. The armory and storage rooms were moved from the stone buildings to the towers with the barracks remaining.

The First Rebellion

Martin Booth launched his bid for power from the Eastern Pass, quickly taking control of both the Keis and Oss. As the rebellious scouts were beaten back, Martin prepared to make his final stand at the Western Pass. He build a long wall across the pass on the valley side, and held out for several years before finally surrendering. The wall, partially destroyed during the struggle, remained.

The Second Rebellion

As bases across the valley rose in rebellion, the Eastern Pass was seized early on by the Lawkeepers who utilized the wall to defend themselves against the Mountain Scouts. During this time a wall was built on the mountain side of the pass as well, to protect from attacking from behind. It was from here that the first counter attacks were launched.   Post-Rebellion The Lawkeepers kept control of the pass after the second rebellion came to an end, turning it into a jail for the surviving mountain scouts.
