In the future, far away, Earth was destroyed by weaponry created by humanity. Humans fled the destruction to planets scattered in nearby patches of the Milky way.
Then disaster struck--again. The Andromeda Galaxy scythed into the Milky Way, shattering both and creating a globular cluster dubbed 'Milkdromeda' by astronomers. An empire grew to cross these stars, fringed by lawbreakers and revolutionaries.
This is the world of The Vast.
