The Vau

Festival (89th Day) of the 6th Month, 461st Cycle [1381st Phase]

Welcome to The Vau, the central location of the series: Time of the Paragons. This is the tale of the events surrounding the dual system of Bora and Kvum, a red and brown dwarf star respectively, and the four habitable planets orbiting Kvum, known as The Vau. These moons are: Shudo, Shuerash, Shusheva, and Shuuyer.   These worlds are no ordinary celestial bodies, however. Indeed, some form of sentience, if not outright sapience, radiates from the two forces, which have long been worshipped by the peoples of The Vau as gods. The different peoples have their different interpretations and practices, but all faiths hold Bora and Kvum in highest regard. All, however, fear Crom, the force of chaos that long ago ripped Bora and Kvum apart from each other, leaving the system with the two tiny stars, rather than one larger proper star as other systems have.   Twenty-three phases ago (approx. 33 Earth years) the most devastating conflict in The Vau's history ended. Unlike previous conflagrations, true peace did not follow the bloodshed. Instead, a period of watchfulness descended upon the system as the two most powerful blocs, called the Juggernauts, vied for control, fighting numerous proxy conflicts trying to shore up zones of influence. Eleven phases ago, it seemed this came to an end when one of the juggernauts, the High Horde of Cromite States (HHCS), crumbled under internal corruption and one proxy war too many, leaving the Brastolian Commonwealth of Shudo (BCS) and its allies in nominal control of the system.   Since then, thinking the worst was over, the BCS grew complacent, becoming every bit the same domineering empire it once painted the HHCS as being. In the vacuums, extremism began to grow out of the resentments built up during the intervening phases result in a massive attack at the heart of the BCS. Quickly conflict spreads back across The Vau as the BC and its handful of remaining allies begin to fight everyone and anyone perceived as an enemy. At the same time, growing conflict builds within the BC and its shaky alliance as its new reality comes into conflict with its stated ideals.   Against this, the divine forces at work have been busy. In typical times of conflict, Bora and Kvum will select and elevate one exceptional elf each to become their Paragons: beings given their divine might to act as a force of stability and a symbol. It seems the Lady of Light and the Lord of Unity have done so again, but something is different this time. Firstly, there is not merely two. Secondly, they are not just elves.
