Sword of Severance

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The true manner of the blade is unknown to us, though, based on appearance and modern enchantment techniques, the creation itself does not seem too dissimilar. Metal or steel, likely Luxosteel--sourced from the heart of the Sunwilds--folded in on itself, with the enchatment runes stretching across the metal before the blade was forged, folded into the blade itself, allowing for significantly longer and more complex echantments. Aside from the specifics being unknown, even trying to replicate a similar enchantment is deemed to be "impossible" under our current understanding of the arcane--there is simply no known way to bypass the three-pulse rule of the Rhythm.

History

Forged in the heart of the Axeleos Accord at the behest of the then king, the Sword of Severance was made as a gift to one of his prestigious young swordmasters. The young fighter, known to us as Kolis, was the sole owner of the blade, using it to carryout the crown's will with extraordinary skill and power. Despite no known magical affinity, the swordswoman was able to bond with the sword in a manner similar to that of Soulbinding available to Weavers and the Spellblades. Some accounts claim that the summoning of this blade was instant, not requiring the customary follwing of the Weave's Rhythm, defying common precepts of the laws of the arcane as are currently understood within the system, though it would be foolish to claim this as entirely impossible, as similar accounts claim the existence of entirely additional forms of magic that have not been seen since the Sundering. The Sword of Severance, along with its wielder, Kolis, were responisble for the mortal death of Aurilash, then queen of Aurilia, thus indirectly responsible for her Ascendancy, the first known changing of divinity without the transferring of ownership of a splinter or fragment of the essence. During the assassination of Aurilash, however, the blade was broken in half, the blade of the sword unable to be pulled free from the corpse of the dead queen. The location of both hilt and blade are unknown, though several groups across Faendmyr are known to be searching for both, as they are seen by the Ashchurches--The Golden Ash and The Woven Ash alike--as relics of the goddess and her teachings. Several accounts claim that the blade is in the possession of [the following text is entirely and utterly illegible, the ink bleeding together in seemingly impossible and unnatural ways].

The blade's appearance, from multiple different accounts, appears to coincide with that of Luxosteel--a rare alloy with iron sourced specifically from the Sunwilds, giving it its characteristic feature of the appearance of silver and gold threads dancing across the steel's surface.
